Our Unsigned Artist of the Week is Jowin from Nashville, Tennessee. Jowin can only be described as a complete and revolutionary artist. Not only are his lyrical style and wordplay one of a kind but how he presents the themes in his music exudes a personal touch that cannot be replicated.

The topics of his music and some of his anime, video game and other references can really only be fully understood by those who share these interests, however they are executed well enough that there is something for everyone and an added joy for those willing to search for answers.

To back up such a unique lyrical talent can only be production that can come from himself. Most of his music are either self produced or produced by talents who share the artists similarities and can match the animation of his style.

There can be no doubt that Jowin is in a different league , both as an artist and as a producer and is paving the way for a new sound in Hip Hop.

Our Unsigned Artist of the Week is the Muzik MOBB from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Muzik MOBB consists of four artists, J-Heat, Young Trigga, Fre$hman, and Zee Zee with occasional singer Raysean. The group as a whole has a very unified sound, with each artist complementing the next effortlessly.

Everyone holds their own and there are no places in their music where one part lacks effort because someone is slacking. This group uses its power in numbers to open up the range of topics that they touch upon and clearly explain their position without sounding repetitive.

Their greatest strength would be in their overall energy. They posses the lyrical talents to make a song and keep a level of energy that is consistent and intense, keeping any crowd on their feet and entertained without being gimmicky.

Overall their energy and ability to manage so much talent into a unified machine is unmatched, making them worth multiple listens daily.

The Economy.

With all the world in a mess because of it, it would make sense to figure out the economy's part in the grand scheme of things.

The economy is defined as:

"The economy is the realized social system of production, exchange, distribution, and consumption of goods and services of a country or other area. A given economy is the end result of a process that involves its technological evolution, civilization's history and social organization, as well as its geography, natural resource endowment, and ecology, among other factors."

Let's break down this definition shall we.

Let's look at the statement in red, The economy is said to be a realized social system. A realized social system can be interpreted to be a system that is accepted by those of a society. Therefore, no matter how bad the economy is as long as it is accepted, it will be an all encompassing part of our life.

In this explanation, it states that based on these factors an economy is born. Now, the factors like technological evolution, civilization's history and social organization are constructs of human intelligence. These are factors that are constantly in a state of change. Therefore, making the economy as all things we have created, susceptible to being destroyed.

So why is it that we continue to believe in such a fragile system that forces upon us the need to work and create difference's in statuses based on income.

A system that no matter how much we can see benefit in we can, as we are experiencing now, suffer major losses in the state of well being in all human nature.

Now, my disbelief in an economy may seem radical to some, but just sit and think for a moment just what will happen if an economy does crash?

Take a look at the last statement in red. These are all things of nature which are last in the definition because they, like all we have strived for as human beings, are always the end result.

Nature doesn't need an economy to make its decisions so why are we, beings of nature that we are, not as the nature we live amongst.

Do we so fear going back to living in cave times that we let the concept of an all encompassing system rule over us?

Don't we still have the ability to make live the way we want if we all decide that we will work together for the common good instead of for the love of money.

I say we do and until we realize this, we will have to live in a world where our uncertainy will only match our imagination that without an economy, we will all crumble.

Now, I don't usually get philosophical when I watch old cartoons or listen to video game music from the past but something struck me as strange. For the first time I realized I was actually revisiting my past. I was never that conscious of the fact that I could revisit periods of my life through art and entertainment.

It is funny how Art and Entertainment is weaved into the tapestry of our world so much that it holds the experiences of our past, and will influence our future, yet for the most part they are dubbed as unnecessary spending in our schools and seen sometimes as a great dumbing down of our present culture.

I wish to explore more how our modern day Art and Entertainment has become a give and take relationship which I feel we the people give life to and how it has become more of truth in our day and age than any others.

Our Unsigned Hype for this Week is Duke Nice. A 21 year old from Delaware, he shows lyrical genius through the swagger of someone who has matured beyond his years. With his smooth delivery and Jazz heavy melodies he brings a new refreshing feel to the Hip Hop Game.

Don't mistake him for just another R&B type Rapper however. He has both the content and lyrical ability to spit about anything.

The odd thing about all this is that I don't know if to be "Proud" of this girl for breaking what might be a record of some sort or to be ashamed at the detachment from the world that this girl has.

I guess its all based on perspective.

The Hip Hop Generational Shift

I'm not one for making predictions nor am I any kind of expert in the subject matter I'm going to touch on but I make this prediction on the basis of patterns.

I predict that MTV's MC's to Watch in 2009 will set the standard for all Hip Hop artists in the future.

Now this is not to say that all of them will be wildly successful but they will cement themselves as what everyone, whether fan or aspiring rapper will look to as MC's in the years to come.

Like I said before, I don't make this prediction based on any "expert" opinion but on the basis of patterns.

Changes in attitudes that keep Hip Hop moving (Fans and the Media) and changes in both the attitudes and techniques the artists use to express themselves are the patterns that are implementing this change.

The reason for this change is simple.

Anyone remember the quote, "Hip Hop is Dead"

Yes that simple quote uttered by Hip Hop Legend, Nas, sent the entire Hip Hop community into a frenzy. Some agreed, some didn't but what is important that quote forced the community to look at itself in the mirror.

This is just an example of three of the five that MTV named MC's to look out for in 2009.

In their interviews, it is clear that they all believe themselves to be not like anyone else and they understand that being like anyone else is flattering but they would rather be themselves.

"I realized that, if I'm going to fail at doing music, then I'm not going to fail [by] doing what everybody else is doing," said, B.o.B, one of the MC's named by MTV to look out for in 2009.

And that's the attitude they all express, a willingness to be themselves and do what they want to do even if it fails.

Technology comes into play with the arsenal of new media weapons (Viral Video and Social Networking Sites), the rapid shift in how we receive and send information, and mainstream media finally recognizing the potential of the Internet.

MTV reports that even though Kid Cudi, the last of the five, just recently got a computer, his hype came way of his friend and producer posting his songs on the Internet and the Internet did the rest.

"I think the biggest accomplishment so far with me is none of my — what they call — 'hype' is gimmicky or forced," he explained. "I didn't beat into the heads of people, like, 'Yo, you're going to listen to my music, and you're going to do this and you're going to do that.' I just kind of put them out and let them breathe."

This is the new "formula" of becoming a Hip Hop artist. The thing is not every artist or ever Hip Hop fan knows this or even understands how its possible. For these five artists to collectively be given such high media coverage from such humble yet tech savvy and sophisticated beginnings gives a lot of credibility to my prediction.

It takes the mystery out of the industry. You don't have to have loads of money or know people to get a chance anymore. You don't have to create gimmicks to sell and in the case of Wale, you don't even need an album anymore to get loads of press from big media outlets.

All you need is to be good at what you do, be determined and be yourself and everything will fall into place.

Just as things in any good art form ought to be.

D-Pryde. Unsigned Artist of the Week

Our Unsigned Hype this week in the New Year is D-Pryde. Hailing from Ontario, Canada , this 15 year old rapper of Spanish and Filipino decent reps hard for his city and and even harder for his generation.

Not to be compared to former MCs under 18 like Bow Wow and Lil' Romeo, who are known more for their looks than their lyrics, he gives an amazing and witty lyrical performance in wide range of topics. His wit, humor and range also translate into music videos and comedic videos on his NHB Films Channel on Youtube.

I was browsing the internet today and stumbled upon this website.

Now I have been called a geek myself but I don't really agree with the views of this list, so I decided to make my own list against it.

Geeks don’t always make more money.

Whether it may be to pursue their non-money related dreams or they just missed out on money making opportunities. Geeks don’t always make more money.

Also think about all the jobs that don’t require a vast amount of intellect like musicians, athletes and actors.

Geeks are awkward.

Geeks tend to have there own style, which to the general public tends to be very awkward. Now for a more mature crowd this may not be a problem. However, a vast majority of public opinion is based on image and how many women want to take a risk and be seen with someone who is awkward.

Geeks pay attention in extreme detail.

Yes geeks recognize all the little things that women want them to recognize but due to a geek’s tendency to over think things they also recognize the things that women may not want them to notice. Instead of just overlooking these things they will most likely put it into their “assessment” of their significant other.

Geeks tend to have selective memories.

Remembering birthdays, likes and dislikes are things that all men should remember and geeks do tend to have good memories. However, they tend to select what is and is not important to remember.

This style of thinking negates the fact that they will pick out better gifts simply because they will never be able to pick out a gift that is a shocking surprise. Think about it like this, if a woman tells you what she likes, she will know what type of gift you will buy, but if she knows that there isn’t any way that you could possibly know what she wants and you get her something she likes on a whim, that my friend is shocking and it is a risk geeks aren’t willing to take.

Geeks have intelligence yes but intelligence is an acquired trait.

Geeks aren’t the only ones who can read books or have a capacity to store information.

Geeks are not very risky.

A geek’s tendency to think things through to limit risk may just bore a woman to death. That means risky activities like buying something that may or may not be liked by their significant other just wont happen.

Geeks think they can “figure out” women.

Put simply this always leads to disaster yet geeks will still try to “figure out” women, which is impossible. Not because women are impossible, simply because human beings in general are too unique and too multi-dimensional to simply “figure out”.

Geeks tend to be logical.

Logic doesn’t always work in a relationship and sometimes being wrong when you’re right in the face of a ridiculous argument may just be the right thing to do. This may seem illogical to geeks, after all their intelligence cannot be questioned else it wouldn’t be logical for them to call themselves geeks.

Geeks don’t care much for fashion.

Can a geek really appreciate the high costs women make in the name of fashion? Yes they may recognize it but appreciating it is something totally different. After all as logical as geeks are, can they really see the sense in wearing high heels.

Geeks aren’t better lovers

Just because someone reads the karma sutra or studies the body parts of a woman doesn’t make them a better lover. Experience is a very key element in making love, and I’m not talking about doing it the act itself but the experience that comes with knowing your partners body well. It is over a period of time that one becomes a better lover not just because they are a geek.

Geeks think gadgetry over simplicity.

To a geek, things that work make sense so things that work will most likely make better gifts in their minds, and that is more likely the kinds of gifts women will receive from geeks.

Sometimes the calculated minds of geeks aren’t willing to be simple. A simple “Happy Birthday” or an “I love you” goes a really long way. It is after all the thought that counts.

Geeks don’t exist after high school.

Probably the most important reason “Why a Geek Wont Steal Your Girlfriend in 2008” is simply because there isn’t any place for them after high school. In college, everyone is trying to uphold some sort of academic standard. When you enter the working world, employers in this day and age choose employees who are well suited for the job. So in 2008 what makes anyone think that labeling themselves one thing or the other makes them guaranteed to be selected by any woman

After all aren’t we all just one character trait away from being called this or being called that. It is best that we just be ourselves and attract others who like us for who we are and not what we are labeled.

The Conquest for Information

We have revolved again.

No longer are we dominated by whos who know everything.

This is no longer a world of who you know.

It is now a world of what you know and how you can obtain more.

Whos are now controlled by whats and whats by hows.

This shift is manifesting because there is much we don’t know.

Or at least much we now know that we don’t know.

It’s funny because this has happened before.

Galileo and heliocentrism for example,

We didn’t know we weren’t the center of the universe.

But now we know that we didn’t know.

And that hurts the credibility of those who thought they knew.

We are at those crossroads once again, where we have the capacity to know as much as anyone, if not more.

But the thing is we can never become whos.

Our generation will never be that, simply because we can always know what about whos.

How?

Well if I could tell you that, I’d be a who.

An Introduction

You’ve probably seen me somewhere. On a train, or maybe even a bus. I probably sat there with a pen and yellow notepad, writing away. Not having a care in the world.

Quite a cliché introduction.

Let’s simplify this.

I’m a writer. Well at least one in the simplest definition of the word.

I am bored.

And I am a thinker.

I have so many different and random thoughts in fact that it would be near impossible for me to write anything based on them to be published.

They are short bursts of consciousness that just whisper to me from time to time.

One thought in particular was to write a blog about my thoughts.

Let’s see if it was a good idea that I listened.
