If you’ve spent any time as a fan
Jowin his announcement of his new project may have taken you back a bit. A bold
statement from a cosmic loner, “Jowin
Actually Has Friends” is meant to be taken literally, not as a figurative suggestion
that the open ended lone soul music that we’ve come to love may be ending.
Instead, it is Jowin’s way of bringing like minded individuals together.

His most collaborative project to
date, the five track EP features production and verses from friends old and
new. The production team of JAHF
lends an R&B and Jazz influenced sound to Jowin’s inquisitive and
observational lyrical style. Tracks that stand out are “Please Save Mii” with production by Luff, Jowin costar Plue Starfox
and his melodic beats and “Stranger,”
with production by Nick Dynamite who lends a dark and atmospheric tone to the
project. Lyrically, Jowin continues his trend of keeping his listeners
attentive and willing participants in his music. He asks questions with his lyrics in a style that
begs listeners to explore options, “If I was your stranger, would I stay your
stranger,” is an anthem that comes to mind. Overall, JAHF comes in as a pleasing step forward guided by a little help
from his friends.

Jowin can only be described as a complete and revolutionary artist. Not only are his lyrical style and wordplay one of a kind but how he presents the themes in his music exudes a personal touch that cannot be replicated.

The topics of his music and some of his anime, video game and other references can really only be fully understood by those who share these interests, however they are executed well enough that there is something for everyone and an added joy for those willing to search for answers.

To back up such a unique lyrical talent can only be production that can come from himself. Most of his music are either self produced or produced by talents who share the artists similarities and can match the animation of his style.

There can be no doubt that Jowin is in a different league , both as an artist and as a producer and is paving the way for a new sound in Hip Hop.
Our Unsigned Artist of the Week is the Muzik MOBB from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Muzik MOBB consists of four artists, J-Heat, Young Trigga, Fre$hman, and Zee Zee with occasional singer Raysean. The group as a whole has a very unified sound, with each artist complementing the next effortlessly.

Everyone holds their own and there are no places in their music where one part lacks effort because someone is slacking. This group uses its power in numbers to open up the range of topics that they touch upon and clearly explain their position without sounding repetitive.

Their greatest strength would be in their overall energy. They posses the lyrical talents to make a song and keep a level of energy that is consistent and intense, keeping any crowd on their feet and entertained without being gimmicky.

Overall their energy and ability to manage so much talent into a unified machine is unmatched, making them worth multiple listens daily.

Our Unsigned Artist of the week is Goose from Syracuse, NY. Goose is a talented storyteller and lyricist who has tasted success and has a hunger for more. In 2006, he took his first bite into fortune with his appearance on the Madden 2007 soundtrack. Now, after some years of in and outs in life and in his career, he brings turns his struggle into a blissful musical experience. Goose weaves engaging stories that range around personal experience and an extrospective sense of everyday human interaction. He does this while having a knack for creative and entertaining lyricism.

In listening to Goose you get an artist that has a profound connection with his music, every word and punchline sounds as if it has a personal story, which makes his music easily likable to those with the slightest bit of empathy.
An accomplished Grind-Time Battler and talented rapper, Dumbfoundead, is an incredible lyrical monster who meshes his punchline style to create a sound that reminds the world of Hip Hop's golden age. He has escaped from the stigma of Battle rappers who can't make songs, by embracing his style and flowing well over beats effortlessly and adding substance to his music while using his lyrical skill to present it with an outstanding level of creativity.

On the production side of Dumbfoundead's music are intelligent multi-dimensional beats that include cuts from DJ Zo that bring the overall production that brings out the full Hip Hop feel of Dumbfoundead's music.

Put simply, Dumbfoundead easily solidifies his spot as a Hip Hop Emcee, who fuses all that is good in Hip Hop's past with a vision and style that catapults his music far beyond a lot of what we hear today.
Our Unsigned Artist of the Week is JayVon Phillips from New York, New York. With JayVon Phillips you have a talented singer with a futuristic sound. From a young age, he has followed in his mother's footsteps with his pursuit of music, training with professionals for most of his music career. In his songs, he displays a smooth, and melodic voice while his lyrics are fun yet strong and emotional when they are needed to be. His lyrics range from songs to make ladies dance to the cosmic nature of relationships.

Behind the pop inspired lyrics and melodic voice is electro inspired production that gives his sound the finishing touch. A majority of the production comes from the talented Geek Squad, who uplift JayVon Phillips with their thoughtful production.
His method isn't to beat Christianity into the heads of his listeners but instead to subtly and cleverly weave it into his music. Along with his message, he flows smoothly over his tracks and brings a few "Oohs" with his clever wordplay.

JusThoughtZ also differentiates himself from the genre by choosing to opt for more Hip Hop and Rock beats instead of the more Gospel heavy sound of Christian Hip Hop today. A unique artist in every sense of the word, it is good to hear that there are upstart artists who are not scared to use there talents to be different and express what they believe in.

My Favorites from JusThoughtZ are "FUTR", "EveryDay" and "Us"
Writewellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12920842144952780709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1588192790393764079.post-48640672319473532862009-03-31T15:43:00.003-04:002009-03-31T16:11:53.525-04:00Dee Nyce. Dee Nyce takes his lyrical ability and turns the rap game upside down with his subject matter. Instead of taking the route of praising and uplifting the life of the ghetto, he takes a step back and criticizes the glorification of the hood. However, instead of rapping in metaphors and similes when referring to the hood, he decides to take a more literal approach and express his ideas as he sees them.

Not only does Dee Nyce criticize the glorification of the hood but he also gives insights and alternative ways to reach one's full potential in life. A proud father and a voice that goes against the common mentality of the streets, he is an artist that his fans can be proud to listen to.

My Favorites from Dee Nyce are "Ignorant Shit" and "I'm Proud of You"
Writewellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12920842144952780709noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1588192790393764079.post-27531973756213580262009-03-24T13:35:00.004-04:002009-03-24T14:08:06.129-04:00Suave the Ape.
